World AIDS Day was celebrated at the college.
Addis Ababa Tegbareid Polytechnic College celebrated the 34th World AIDS Day today. The event was attended by the college’s senior officials; directors; training sector heads; college staff; trainees and professionals from the Addis Ababa Health Bureau. In his opening speech on the occasion of the day’s celebration, the college’s Dean, Ato Girum Girma, said that the day is the first of the eleven public health-related holidays celebrated by the World Health Organization; he recalled that since 1988, it has been celebrated on November 22 every year to create awareness about the epidemic; care for patients and remember those who have lost their lives to the disease. He added that since the disease was first recognized globally in 1984, more than 38 million people have been confirmed to have contracted the disease and nearly 35 million have died from the disease, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa, where political, economic and social problems are prevalent. He also noted that this year’s World AIDS Day is celebrated with the aim of eradicating the HIV/AIDS pandemic by eliminating inequalities; he called on the entire college community to contribute to the goal of completely eliminating AIDS by 2030 by spreading awareness about the pandemic and informing others, as well as by taking necessary precautions. On the other hand, after presenting a document on the subject, experts from the Health Bureau presented various artistic works related to the day and the national situation and celebrated it in a colorful manner; A question and answer session and HIV/AIDS testing were also conducted by the college community.
